Flatwoods is a third class city with a population of 8,000, located in the triangle between Ironton, Ohio; Huntington, West Virginia; and Ashland, Kentucky.   Flatwoods is a bedroom community with no industry.  We have a public swimming pool and two parks.  We operate on a budget of $3.5 million per year.  The students of Flatwoods attend the Russell Independent Schools in Russell, Kentucky.

The City of Flatwoods consists of 24 full-time employees:  11 in the Police Department, 9 in Public Works, and 4 in the Front Office.
